Cosmid Sequencing

The expectation that genome sequence analysis will provide an increasingly useful approach to the characterization of biological material has led to suggestions that the complete genome sequences of organisms ranging from Escherichia coli to Homo sapiens should be determined. Work is already underway to determine the genome sequences of some model organisms, such as E. coli, Succharomyces cerevisiae , and Cuenorhubditis elegans , because their small genomes are well characterized both genetically and physically. The much larger project to sequence the human genome is currently at a more preliminary stage.
