Introduction to Functional MRI Hardware

This chapter discusses MRI hardware components, stimulus presentation devices, response, and physiological data collection systems. The general guidelines for MR-compatible hardware are also discussed. The chapter gives an overview of commonly used peripheral devices used in fMRI experiments, and it addresses the principles, performance aspects, and specifications of fMRI hardware. The target audience is quite broad and mathematical descriptions are kept to a minimum and qualitative descriptions are favored whenever possible.
