Treatability studies are critical for successful implementation of both in situ and ex situ bioremediation technologies. Few contaminated sites are identical and experience can only be applied within limits Many variables governing the efficacy of bioremediation processes are a function of environmental conditions, type of contaminants, and contammated media (see Chapter 1). Protocols for conducting treatabilrty studies are required to evaluate the effectiveness of primary substrates, supplemental nutrients, electron aceptors, and their mode of dehvery.
