Basal Medium of primary cells is a sterile, phenol red-free, liquid, tissue culture medium intended for use as one component in a complete Primary Cell Solutions system for primary cells. Basal Medium of primary cells contains essential and non-essential amino acids, vitamins, other organic compounds, trace minerals and inorganic salts. To support the plating efficiency and proliferation of primary cells, Basal Medium of primary cells must be supplemented with the appropriate Cell growth components.

The Cell growth components contain several cytokines and cell growth factors that when added to the basal medium of primary cells create a complete culture environment for primary cells. Use of this will support a faster rate of proliferation compared to when Cell growth components, Serum is used. An upper limit for population doublings has not been established for primary cells when cultured with Basal Medium supplemented with Cell growth components, serum (10-20% FBS).
