The current knowledge of microbial cell structure at the molecular level is restricted so that very often unsatisfymgly indirect methods must be used. The methods of analysis may be too severely narrowed down. There is a big risk in drawing conclusions without any real evidence of immediate responses to drugs by living bacteria.
