Given their ubiquitous and crucial role in the integration and amplification of signal transduction pathways, it is not surprising that anomalies in the expression and/or function of various G proteins has been implicated in a multitude of pathophysiological states: pseudohypoparathyroidism (PsHP), heart failure, endocrine tumors, McCune-Albright syndrome, diabetes, alcoholism, schizophrenia, major valve prolapse, chronic cocaine or opiate ingestion, aging, hypo- or hyperthyroidism, and adrenalectomy or corticosteroid medication (Horn and Bilezkian, 1990 ; Hoffman and Tabakoff, 1990 ; Nestler et al, 1990 ; Kerwin and Beats, 1990 ; Dewas et al., 1990 ; Weinstein et al., 1991 ; Davies et al., 1991 ; Nomura et al., 1991 ; Paulssen et al., 1992 ).
