Transformation of Microalgae Using Silicon Carbide Whiskers

Microalgae are single-celled or colonial photosynthetic organisms that are receiving increasing attention for use their potential usefulness in a number of industrial applications, including bioremediation and the production of high-value specialty chemicals and fuels. The ability to genetically engineer these organisms, in order to study and eventually manipulate then metabolic pathways, would greatly enhance the utility of microalgae as scientifically and industrially important species.
