　　骨骼肌收缩时伴随肌肉缩短所产生的热。希尔（A.V.Hill）发现，在收缩热与肌肉的缩短量之间存在着简单的比例关系，这个比例常数称为热常数。希尔认为，在等张单收缩及强直收缩时，肌肉中释放的全部能量E等于机械功W、激活热（维持热）A和收缩热ax（a为热常数）三者之和，即E=W A ax。近年来对磷酸肌酸或ATP分解量（相当于上式的E）似乎可被测出，但还测不出相当于收缩热的分解量，因此对收缩热的起源产生了疑问。希尔曾再三地详细地对收缩热进行了测定，结果认为严格来说热常数a并不是一定的，而是张力的函数。
