Dendritic patch-clamp recordings have recently become popular as an electrophysiological technique to investigate the functional properties of ion channels in neuronal dendrites. During the past decade, experimentalists have pioneered recording from dendrites of neurons in brain slices under direct visual control (Davie et al., Nat Protoc 1(3):1235–1247, 2006). In this chapter, we describe advanced recording techniques including dendritic patching by the “blind approach.”
