　　动物吃同种的其他个体的现象。亦称种内捕食（ intraspecies predation）。经常可见到蚂蚁或白蚁等社会性昆虫的幼虫或成虫捕食其同类的卵、小形幼虫和蛹，这种现象特别发生在食物缺乏时期。某种蚁其工蚁所产的卵成为母蚁或大形幼虫的食物来源，这种卵称为营养卵（ trophic egg，法 ceuf alimentaire）。其他在无脊椎动物和鱼类方面也常看到同类残食现象，有些例子可被认为具有密度调节的作用。在自然种群中关于同类残食的真正意义，至今还不十分清楚。在高等动物中被观察到的同类残食的例子是不多的。
