The ability to compare two different messenger RNA (mRNA) or complementary DNA (cDNA) libraries has permitted studies into the role of differentially expressed genes involved in the mechanisms of neoplastic transformation, developmental regulation, therapeutic effects, pathological disorders, and cell-physiological phenomena. Understanding the alterations of gene expression and chromosomal rearrangement between normal and disordered cells is important for gene therapy, eugenical improvement, pharmaceutical design, and etiological investigation.
